Paris

We got into Paris and realized we had no Euros. Big mistake. Buying metro tickets to get to the hotel without any coins? Impossible. No one would give us change, even at the stores. We tried every single one of our credit cards, too, and none of them worked! Finally we walked across the station and ended up at some window, where we managed to buy some and get directions to the right line. I think it took about an hour total. ><

We were too exhausted to do anything exciting that afternoon but eventually managed to wander around in search of food around 4:30. Also a bad idea. Everything was closed except one little bakery, so we had something that resembled breakfast food. It was pretty good anyway, though. I suggested we go to Montmartre, so we hit the Sacre Coeur and watched the pigeons peck the shit out of each other.

The next day we did basically everything all in one go. We hit the Louvre but forgot to check which day it was closed. Turns out, it was THAT day. Figures. We wandered around the gardens and then went to Angelina's for some hot chocolate -- little did we know we were ordering a jug full of it!! It was intense. Even I couldn't finish more than a few sips.
Here's Matt pinching the Obelisk.
We walked down the Champs-Elysees to the Arc and then hopped on the metro to the Eiffel tower. The line just to get up to the 2nd floor was about an hour long, but luckily we made it in time for sunset. The summit was closed for some reason, but we had pretty good views from where we were.
At night the Tower lights up, so we went down and watched from the lawn. It was pleasant, although the touts were really annoying and kept trying to sell us everything from mini-Eiffels to cigarettes. Noooo thanks.

After all that, we went to a Brasserie nearby to have dinner. We got a bottle of wine and regretted it; somehow we managed to spend almost 80 euros on dinner in a place that allowed dogs inside. What the hell? The dogs were cute, though.
