We found out there's a leak in our bathroom that's causing damage downstairs, so the girl we're renting from has been taking care of arranging repairs. She's been really good about it, though, and luckily I'll be gone when they do the actual work.
Speaking of being gone... I'm going home next week for Easter! Hooray! I'll be in DC from April 6-10, then I fly to Orlando and stay until the 15th. It's not very long but I don't have any more holidays to take.
When I get back from Florida, I have to take the GRE Analytical Writing test here in Hong Kong. They do a weird split-paper format here, so I need to take the writing in April and then the Verbal/Quantitative in June. I'm actually really glad for that, since I need to study my ass off for the real test. Mostly the maths.
Yeah, maths.
The reason I'm taking the GRE, if you haven't heard, is because I finally decided to apply to Grad School ('bout time, I know). I had been waffling for quite a while on what program to do, but I found out about UT @ Austin's "Preservation of the Cultural Record" program, which is under the MSIS (Master of Science in Information Science) umbrella. It sounds really dorky but it's a mix of librarianship and archive studies, with lots of practical application. So I figure it's the best of both worlds, because I can stay near the fields of Linguistics & English Lit, while actually earning a living wage. Plus, it's a broad enough field that there's work in the public sector or with private collections. I've missed the deadline for starting this fall (naturally) so I have to apply for the Fall 2010 semester, which is actually better because I can stay here and make some money, get my shit together, check off a few more countries from the must-visit list, and maybe get some volunteer or internship experience while I'm at it.
Oh, and I dyed my hair darker but hardly anyone noticed.
So that about wraps it up.
xoxo
