I can't believe it's August 1 already.
I start work today at my new job, but all I'm doing is watching training videos, apparently. Yes! I'm not sure when I actually start teaching, since I was supposed to take over for a girl who was leaving, but now she's decided to stay. I suppose that's a good sign? We'll see.
Having these couple days to get things situated was really nice, I feel like I'm finally settled in. I took care of a few pressing things, including getting my visa extension -- which, btw, allows me to stay and work until 2010, if I so desire. ^^ Also, Sunday the 3rd will be exactly one year from when I landed in HK the first time.
The new batch of ETAs will show up on Monday. I'm supposed to give them a tour of Tai Po (aka the old stompin' grounds) next week. I'm hoping for their sake that they've got more knowledge of Chinese than our group did going into this.
As far as the Olympics goes, Shatin is hosting the Equestrian events, so we're expecting it to get pretty crazy soon. They've set up a Tourist Help Centre in the mall, staffed by a bunch of teenage girls dressed in faux jockey gear -- but instead of whips they have clipboards. And they're stationed on every floor to answer all of your burning questions. I'll try to take a picture today. I'm pretty sure they'll believe I'm a tourist.
