for your enlightenment

I'm sure you know that everybody in China was excited when they got to host the Olympics on 08.08.08, because it's a very lucky day. The number 8 is good because when you say it ('baat') it sounds like the Chinese word 'faat', which means 'prosperous' or 'prosperity'. So three 8's in a row is pretty damn prosperous.

We live on the 28th floor of our building. In Hong Kong, this is a good thing. When you say 28 quickly in Cantonese (yi sap baat) apparently it sounds like 'yi faat' which means 'easily prosper'.
When we looked at other apartments, the first asshole agent we visited tried to get us to sign a lease on the 14th floor. It's a good thing we didn't, because 14 ('sap sei') sounds just like 'sat sei', or 'easy death'.
No thanks!
