Michael Chabon's article reminded me why I am hesitant to move back to the US -- fear. I'm disappointed because the image of America that I grew up with has been systematically degraded to the point where I don't want to live there right now. Living in Hong Kong has made me realize just how much Americans waste, how much we don't know about the world, and how comfortable we are in our little bubble.
Don't get me wrong, though -- I miss America. I woke up at 6am just to watch the Superbowl yesterday. I love how different Americans can be, and yet we all share something so fundamental. I am also incredibly grateful to our government that I was given this opportunity to be in Hong Kong.
I haven't lost hope.
